Rangiora Veterinary Centre Equine are seeking a dedicated and passionate Equine Care Assistant to join their team in Rangiora in the beautiful South Island of New Zealand.

ABOUT US
We are a busy ambulatory practice with an onsite Equine Hospital and Surgery dedicated to providing exceptional care to our equine patients. We pride ourselves on providing excellent patient care and fostering a supportive collaborative work environment.
Our team are committed to best practice in veterinary medicine providing first opinion and referral services to horse owners and veterinarians of North Canterbury and the South Island of New Zealand.
Rangiora Veterinary Centre was established over 50 years ago and is situated 25 minutes north of Christchurch City, 10 minutes to the beach, and 1 hour to the mountains. We are looking for an equine care assistant with experience and passion about the routine care and wellbeing of horses to join our dynamic and clinically diverse team of nine equine veterinarians, two equine nurses, and three support staff.
Our facilities include an equine hospital with barn and paddocks, arena and trot up track, surgical theatre, equine CT scanner, digital radiography, ultrasonography, videoendoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, orthobiologics, shock wave and an in-house laboratory.
THE ROLE
As an equine care assistant, you will play a pivotal role in our team ensuring the highest standards of care for surgical and hospitalised patients.
Key responsibilities include:
Routine daily care of horses including feeding, mucking out and grooming.
In charge of general maintenance, presentation and hygiene of the barn and hospital facilities.
Assisting veterinarians and support staff with minor procedures and daily treatments.
Assisting with admissions and discharges of hospital patients.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience: Previous horse handling is essential, especially with race or young horses.
Skills: Excellent horse handling skills, attention to detail and strong work ethic for physical tasks.
Team Player: A collaborative approach with excellent communication skills where your input with be sought, valued and respected.
Leadership: Ability to take initiative and maintain a positive workplace culture.
Commitment: Monday - Friday with hours of 8am to 12pm. Additional hours may be required.
Passion: A genuine love for horses and dedication to their welfare.
