Lily
Meet Lily, she is a sweet little 11 year old who visited the dental vet to have two teeth extracted and a scale and polish.
Although she is in her senior years, she didn't have too much tartar on her teeth at all, which is due to her owner being diligent about brushing them. If this didn’t happen, Lily could have had a major procedure and lot more removed. Teeth brushing is the best way to help prevent severe dental disease and tartar build up in our pets.
In small breed dogs like Lily we recommend a scale and polish every 6-12 months, even with home dental care such as brushing, dental chews and premium dental diets.
Our pets can put up with a lot of tooth ache or sore mouths long before they show obvious signs something is wrong inside their mouths, such as having trouble eating . Keeping up with dental hygiene in pets is so important for their long term quality of life.
Due to her age, Lily had pre-anaesthetic blood tests (which for her were normal). We recommend pre-anesthetic bloods on patients over the age of 7, as this helps us identify potential underlying issues with organ functions, which can be a cause for concern if anaesthesia is to be administered.
