Dr Aly Mirza

BVSc, IAVC Certified

We're excited to welcome Dr Aly Mirza to the team!

Aly’s clinical focus at RVC Equine is sport and performance horse medicine – both racing and sport.

Aly graduated with a Batchelor's in Veterinary Science from Massey University in 2016. His interest in the equine species persuaded him to complete an 18 month internship at the Massey University Equine Clinic shortly after graduation. Still eager to find his niche in the profession, Aly worked at an equine private practice for a few years before he became chiropractic trained and certified by the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic.

Following this he gained further veterinary experience in a mixed animal practice for a few years. At this time, he diversified the patients he treated to include companion and farm animals, but still maintained a strong interest for equine. In 2024 he joined the RVC Equine team to focus on racetrack medicine, as well as general equine practice and performance horse work.

His experience in the veterinary profession so far has kindled a passionate interest in equine sports medicine and rehabilitation. He aims to assimilate conventional veterinary medicine with alternative therapies such as chiropractic (and acupuncture) to optimally support your horse. He believes that the wellbeing of his patients is a team effort. The owner, trainer, farrier, physiotherapist and veterinarian all play an equally integral role in supporting the equine athlete.

Aly is certified in veterinary chiropractic and has an integrated approach to lameness and performance problems and rehabilitation.

Aly’s early life experiences on the farm and compassion for all animals kindled the desire to pursue veterinary medicine. No stranger to horses, and it certainly runs in the family, with his grandfather breeding Thoroughbred racehorses, his father an equine veterinarian, and his brother an Olympian event rider. Aly began riding at an early age, which developed into competitive sports, leading to competing internationally in Germany (Showjumping) and Australia (Eventing). He continues to ride competitively today.
