Annual Winter Dairy Conference
& 10th Annual Dairy Awards
Thank you to those who joined us for this years’ RVC Dairy Awards earlier this month! It was a typical North Canterbury winters day with snow on the hills, the sun shining & a thick frost that remained on the ground at morning teatime. We were very kindly hosted by the West Oxford Hotel this year, and we hope you enjoyed the warm fireplace, the delicious hot lunch, & the beer that was provided.
This event is always a favourite of ours, as we reflect on the great work that has been achieved throughout the season and celebrate the top successes, as well as become informed with the most up-to-date research (intertwined with some varying levels of humour), and most importantly catch up with other members of the local dairy farming community.
We were very fortunate this year to have Ryan Luckman from The Vet Centre Oamaru present to us about the future of technology in the dairy industry, and how this can be used to benefit farm productivity. We also had RVC’s own expert, Andrew Weir, deliver an informative presentation on all things related to BVD and what his recommendations are to protect your herd (as well as your bottom line). There were some great discussions that came about during these presentations, we hope you found them very informative & helpful for the upcoming season!
The last season certainly had its fair share of challenges for most of us, and we would like to congratulate you all for still doing a brilliant job on farm and putting in the hard work every day!
An extra special acknowledgement goes out again to the following farm teams who had exceptional performance:
Most Improved Milk Quality: Robinson Dairy Farm Ltd
Most Improved Fertility: Broadlea Dairy Ltd
